Special Features of Kwai Tsing

Kwai Tsing is situated in southwest New Territories. It comprises Kwai Chung District (with an area of 1,023 hectares) and Tsing Yi Island (with an area of 960 hectares) with a population of around 523,300.

 

There are 23 public housing estates, 15 Home Ownership Scheme estates, 3 Sandwich Class Housing Scheme estates and a number of private housing estates in Kwai Tsing.  With some large-scale shopping centres and a comprehensive transport network including the Tsing Ma Bridge, Route 3, Tsing Yi North Coastal Road, MTR and Airport Railway, the residents in the District can enjoy a comfortable and convenient living environment.

 

There are a full range of sports, leisure, recreational and cultural facilities in the District including Central Kwai Chung Park, Tsing Yi Park, Kwai Tsing Theatre as well as a number of community halls, community centres, public libraries, indoors stadiums and sports grounds. Regarding the community facilities, there are approximately 120 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Kwai Tsing which provide quality education service. As for medical care, the Princess Margaret Hospital and the Kwai Chung Hospital under the Kowloon West Cluster of the Hospital Authority are situated in Kwai Tsing, which provide more quality and specialised treatment to the public. There are also health facilities including specialist outpatient clinic, general outpatient clinic, dental clinic, community nursing service centre and maternal and child health centre to provide comprehensive medical service to residents in the District.

 

Hong Kong is one of the busiest container ports in the world. The Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi  Container Port, which comprises nine terminals and 24 berths with a total throughput of over 18 million TEUs per year, plays an important role in the freight transport sector in Hong Kong.

 

Thanks to the Disneyland theme park near Kwai Tsing District which attracts a vast number of overseas, Mainland and local visitors every year, the Lantau Link View Point located in northwestern part of Tsing Yi Island has become a scenic spot for those visitors who are heading for Disneyland. At the View Point, visitors can admire the scenery of Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge and Ma Wan Channel. Other special attractions in the District include Kwai Tsing Reunification Health Trail, Chun Kwan Temple and Tin Hau Temple etc.
