Welcome Messagefromthe Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council
The third term of the Kowloon City District Council (KCDC), with 27 District Council Members, came into being on 1 January 2008. I feel very honoured to be re-elected Chairman by the Members and have the opportunity to continue to serve the Kowloon City District together. The KCDC will actively reflect to the Government local issues that affect people’s well-being and use KCDC Funds to subsidise local organisations to hold activities and improve the environment and facilities in the district with a view to further improving the living standards of local residents. To better cope with the district work in a systematic way, the current term of the KCDC has set up five committees, including the Housing and Infrastructure Committee, Traffic and Transport Committee, Food, Environment and Health Committee, and Community Building and Social Services Committee. With expanded functions of the new term of the District Council in the management of district facilities, the new KCDC has set up the Leisure and District Facilities Management Committee, which, in addition to implementing the work of the previous Culture, Recreation and Sports Committee, will also participate in the management of libraries and leisure facilities in the district under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and will use the newly established District Minor Works Funds to improve the leisure facilities in the district and carry out major environmental improvement projects. In the coming four years, the Kowloon City District will meet all kinds of opportunities, including the effective management of district facilities, improving residents’ living standards, intensifying the work on national education, promotion of healthy living, community cohesion and social harmony prompted by the Olympic Games, and the monitoring of the Shatin to Central Link project and Kai Tak development, etc. To effectively respond to local people’s expectations, we very much need your participation and views. I cordially invite each and every one of you to join hands with the third term of the KCDC to build a better Kowloon City community together, and hope local residents will visit this website frequently to gain a better understanding of the work of the KCDC and actively contribute their views.
Ir. Wong Kwok-keung, SBS, JP Chairman Kowloon City District Council |
