Welcome Message from The Hon. CHEUNG Hok-ming, GBS, JP Chairman of Tai Po District Council |
|
Welcome to the homepage of the Tai Po District Council. Tai Po District used to be a simple village town. It has gradually transformed into a satellite town with a population of about 300,000 through the rapid development over the years. Tai Po District is a place with an abundance of varied resources and beautiful scenery of nature, a place of melting pot of new and old cultures and a place renowned for its antiquities and monuments, thus making it not only an ideal community to reside in, but also a thrilling district for sight-seeing and fun. Most residents of Tai Po District live in the six public housing estates and the flats sold under the Tenants Purchase Scheme as well as the private buildings located in the New and the Old Market Areas, while the others live in the 133 villages in the District. The tenure of the third term Tai Po District Council commenced in January 2008. There are five functional committees formed under the Tai Po District Council to address various aspects of district issues concerning agriculture, fisheries, industries, commerce, tourism and recreational affairs, traffic and transport, environment, housing and works, social services, as well as the new business of district facilities management. The Tai Po District Council will organise various kinds of activities, and will address and study issues concerning the above aspects and manage the facilities so as to improve the living environment of the residents, and to promote residents’ understanding of the District, as well as to enhance their sense of belonging towards the District. With the looming of the Olympic Games, the development of the society and the change of the functions of District Councils, various new projects and programmes will be carried out and implemented in Tai Po District in future. We will keep abreast of the time and the needs of the residents and will foster a better communication and work closely with government departments, local organisations and the residents, so as to get the District prepared for the opportunities ahead and to build a better Tai Po Community.
I
earnestly invite you to let us have your valuable opinions and views so
that our works can be improved to perfection.
The Hon.
CHEUNG Hok-ming, GBS, JP
