To highlight the theme of the Kowloon City Festival – the Charm of Kowloon City in the Past and Present, the KCDC compiled "Tracing the Transformation of Kowloon City" to introduce the features of the district from a new angle. Besides presenting abundant information of historical events, the publication records the narratives of local residents and workers about the look and development of Kowloon City in different eras as well as their life episodes and personal experience. These materials not only enhance the understanding of the readers about life of people in the old days, but also add human touch to the solemn historical facts, giving readers a fascinating appeal.

  • Cultural Heritage of Kowloon City District (Available in Chinese only)

Cultural Heritage of Kowloon City District, a book which aims to give the public a better understanding of the Kowloon City District, was published by the Kowloon City District Council (KCDC) in November 2005. The book comprises four parts, namely the history of the district, its scenic and historic spots, local traditions and customs, and folk poetry.

To ensure good quality, the KCDC has commissioned the Department of Chinese of the University of Hong Kong to compile the book. It is the fruit of a whole year's laborious research and compilation work. In addition to original historical information and precious photographs gleaned from local and overseas sources, the book also contains exclusive oral historical accounts by local leaders in the district. The book is, indeed, a treasure in itself.

Copies of the book were distributed to all public and university libraries across the territory. Free copies were also given to primary and secondary schools, local organisations, non-governmental organisations, owners' corporations, and mutual aid committees etc. in the district.
