he Yuen Long District Council supports the Package of Proposals for the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2012 put forward by the government after fully considering the views of the public and all sectors of the community and opinions submitted by this Council during the three-months consultation. In compliance with the Basic Law and Decision on Issues Relating to the Universal Suffrage Timetable for Hong Kong adopted by the Standing Committee of the National People Congress in 2007, this package can enhance democratic elements in the methods for selecting the Chief Executive and for forming the Legislative Council in 2012 through wider participation of elected District Council Members who have a broad electorate base in the Election Committee and theLegCo election, roll forward democratic development for Hong Kong and pave the way for implementing universal suffrage. No more political stalemate should be allowed. This Council urges the LegCo to endorse the motion to support Package of Proposals for the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2012. *
